Chloe Birch and Jessica Pugh reached the semi-finals of the Orleans Masters before losing out to Bulgarian duo Gabriela and Stefani Stoeva.
Birch and Pugh had charged through to the last four in France before being beaten 21-15 21-12 by the top seeds and 2018 European Champions.
The eighth seed English pair had beaten fourth seeds Julie Macpherson and Ciara Torrance on the way to the semi-finals as well as overcoming Malaysian pair Low Yeen Yuan and Valeree Siow and Ukrainian duo Mariia Stoliarenko and Yelyzaveta Zharka.
Elsewhere in the women’s doubles, Lizzie Tolman exited at the first round with Scottish partner Eleanor O’Donnell, losing 21-18 21-15 to Malaysia’s Go Pei Kee and Yap Ling.
Pugh was also in mixed doubles action with Callum Hemming, with the pair reaching the second round before losing to Singapore’s Hee Yong Kai Terry and Tan Wei Han 21-18 21-18.
There was defeat too for Rory Easton and Annie Lado in the first round to Anton Kaisti and Alžbeta Bášová.
In the men’s doubles, there were first round exits for pairs Avinash Gupta and Brandon Zhi Hao Yap and Callum Hemming and Steve Stallwood.
Gupta and Zhi Hao Yap lost 21-17 21-14 to eighth seeds Christopher and Matthew Grimley, while fifth seeds Hemming and Stallwood lost 17-21 21-10 30-28 to France’s Lucas Corvee and Ronan Labar after a mammoth final game.
Rory Eaton and Zach Russ reached the second round before losing narrowly 21-19 21-18 to Corvee and Labar.
Johnnie Torjussen reached the second round of the men’s singles before being defeated by Sholeh Aidil 21-15 21-9 while eighth seed Toby Penty also exited in the second round 21-10 21-13 to India’s Meiraba Luwang Maisnam.
