The youngest champion in World Athletics Indoor Championships is Vashti Cunningham, who won the high jump in the 2016 games in Birmingham. On the event day, this US competitor was 18 years and 62 days. The second youngest World Athletics indoor champion is Samuel Tefera, who won the 1500-metre race at the age of 18 years and 162 days.

The all-time oldest indoor world champion is Yekaterina Podkopayeva. In the Paris Games in 1997, the Russian athlete Podkopayeva took gold in the 1500-metre race at the respectable age of 44 years, 271 days. The title of the oldest-ever male champion goes to Bernard Lagat – who won the 3000-metre championship when he was 37 years and 90 days old.
