Swedish discus throwers Simon Pettersson and Daniel Ståhl are in top form

Swedish discus throwers Simon Pettersson and Daniel Ståhl showed a strong early summer condition on Saturday in Växjö.

Simon Pettersson, 27, threw his new discus throw record with a result of 69.48. A year earlier, the previous record of 67.72 improved by almost two meters. Pettersson was fourth at the European Championships in Berlin 2018 and ninth at the World Championships in Doha 2019.

The result of the reigning world champion Daniel Ståhl in Växjö was 69.11. One of his foul throws carried a result of 73.83. Jürgen Schult’s World Record score is 74.08 (1986).

The Swedish level in men’s discus is currently exceptionally high. Two men from the same nation last crossed 69 meters in the men’s discus in the same season in 2006, when Estonians Gerd Kanter and Aleksandr Tammert both threw over 70 meters.

Also, U.S. Anthony Washington and John Godina crossed 69 meters in 1999.
