No less than 35 high-level indoor meetings in Europe will be staged between January and March in 2022, with those meetings being staged across the length and breadth of the continent – from Sweden to Spain and Ireland to Serbia – in no less 14 Member Federations.
The extensive and intensive two-month programme culminates in the World Athletics Indoor Championships in the Serbian capital Belgrade, which was the the host city for the 2017 European Athletics Indoor Championships.
Europe will stage five of the seven World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold meetings – in Karlsruhe, Germany; Lievin, France; Birmingham, Great Britain; Torun, Poland and in the Spanish capital Madrid – and has nine meetings designated as World Athletics Tour Silver meetings, including the curtain-opener for the entire Tour in the British city of Manchester on 22 January.
Four other meetings will be Indoor Special Silver meetings, meaning that they will focus on individual events like the famous Banskobystricka latka high jump meeting in the Slovakian city of Banska Bystrica or the pair of French pole vault spectaculars in Clermont-Ferrand and Rouen.
As a follow up to their Olympic glory, with a number having also won at the European Athletics Indoor Championships in Torun last March, many European athletes are expected to use the indoor meetings as part of their preparations for the World Athletics Indoor Championships Belgarde22, the first global championships on European soil since the start of 2021.
