OSAKIS – The Osakis girls tennis team went 3-0 on its home court on Monday with wins over Melrose, Wadena-Deer Creek and Morris Area-Chokio-Alberta/West Central Area.
“This was a very good day for our team,” head coach Ryan Maddock said. “It is hard to win matches, so anytime you go 3-0 on the day, that is a day to feel good about.”
The Silverstreaks’ closest match of the day was its second match of the day, a 4-3 win over the Wolverines. The singles matches made the difference as the Silverstreaks won all four of them, while the Wolverines won all three doubles matches.
“The teams we played are good solid class A teams with Wadena Deer Creek being a sleeper in their section (8A),” Maddock said.
This match win for Osakis came after a 7-0 win over Melrose and before a 6-1 win over MACA/WCA.

Osakis dominated the singles matches as it won all of the 12 singles matches on Monday.
“Our singles players had a very strong day,” Maddock said. “They made minimal errors and really controlled their matches. They hit lots of clean winners and really set the tone for success early in their matches.”
Freshmen Leah Maddock and Bella Weisser picked up three wins each at the No. 1 and No. 4 singles spots, while seniors Larris Hoffarth and Bria Hoffarth earned three wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 singles spots, respectively.
In the WDC match, Leah Maddock defeated junior Libby Hartman, 10-1, while Larissa Hoffarth defeated junior Kelanie Oldakowski, 10-3. Osakis’ Bria Hoffarth and Weisser earned 10-2 victories over freshmen Kaylee Endres and Charlie Snyder, respectively.
The Osakis doubles teams of senior Madi Collins and Ellie George at the No. 1 spot, junior Brenna Moen and senior Lyndsey Middendorf at the No. 2 spot and junior Lauren Anderson and sophomore Jaclyn Dietrich (along with senior Ambrosia Steinbrecher in the MACA/WCA match) at the No. 3 spot, all had solid outings and won at least one match on Monday.

“We are still working on finding the best doubles combinations for everyone and we were without one of our stronger players on Monday in Madeline Anderson, who was out with an illness,” Ryan Maddock said. “I thought everyone gave a good effort in trying to win their matches.”
Osakis is coming off a 2021 season where it had a 15-7 record, won the Prairie Conference title and finished second in Section 6A to Litchfield, who finished second at the state tournament.
While some pieces from that team graduated in the spring, some are back this year, and Ryan Maddock believes this 2022 team can have a lot of depth.
“I feel that our singles lineup has the potential to be very strong, and once we figure out the doubles combinations that will work best, we will have a deep team,” Maddock said. “Some challenges we have is that a lot of girls are moving up spots in the lineup or are playing varsity for the first time. So there are nerves there to begin with, that players will need match experience to learn how to manage. I thought we did a good job of that on Monday. One of our goals is to be a top three team in the section and improve enough that we can challenge for the section title.”
Osakis first took down Melrose 7-0 to begin the day. Leah Maddock and Bria Hoffarth earned 10-1 wins, while Larissa Hoffarth and Weisser earned 10-4 victories.
Collins and George earned a 10-4 at No. 1 doubles over senior Jamie Klasen and junior Jessica Pohlmann, while Moen and Anderson defeated the team of junior Macy Davis and senior Madison Baysinger, 10-5 at No. 2 doubles and No. 3 doubles, Middendorf and Dietrich defeated senior Abagail Welle and Camryn Roering, 10-6.
MACA/WCA’s lone win over Osakis came from juniors Karlie Bruns and Ashley Koehl, 8-5, at No. 1 singles over George/Collins. Anderson/Moen defeated Lydia Fynboh and Elizabeth Pollard, 8-2 at No. 2 doubles, while Middendorf/Steinbrecher defeated sophomores Ellen Reed and Grace Hauglie, 8-4 at No. 3 doubles.
Weisser, Leah Maddock and Larissa Hoffarth earned 8-0 sweeps in the MACA/WCA match while Bria Hoffarth earned an 8-2 win.
The Silverstreaks head to Delano for a quadrangular on Thursday along with Brainerd and Orono, beginning at 9 a.m.
“We will face some really strong Class AA teams Thursday at a Quad in Delano,” Ryan Maddock said.
