The 40-year-old Ferrer has been appointed Davis Cup finals tournament director Kosmos announced. Ferrer succeeds his good friend and former Roland Garros champion Albert Costa, who assumed the post in October, 2018.

“I am very excited to join the project,” Ferrer said. “The Davis Cup is a unique competition.

“As a player, it’s one of the great tournaments you always want to play for what it means. You compete as a team, you defend the colors of your country, you live for a week with your teammates and the atmosphere that is lived in the stands is incredible.”

Davis Cup stalwart Ferrer played 20 ties in his 16-year Davis Cup career and was a member of three Spanish Davis Cup championship squads.

Widely regarded along with David Nalbandian and Nikolay Davydenko as one of the best players of his era without a Grand Slam singles crown, Ferrer registered a 734-377 record with 27 career titles.

This is the second time Ferrer has succeeded his friend Costa in an administrative post. In 2020, Ferrer officially succeeded Costa as Barcelona tournament director.
