Spandau keeps title hopes alive

The playoffs final of the German League have continued this weekend with two matches in Berlin.

After three games in a best-of-five series, Hannover leads 2:1.

Hannover defeated Spandau at home several days ago (12:9). On Saturday, Hannover beat Spandau in Berlin 11:9 and had a chance to secure the title in the third match, played today. But, Spandau recorded a narrow 14:13 victory and prolonged the final.

The fourth match will be played in Hannover. If Spandau wins that game, it will be the host of the 5th encounter.

The second game was an even contest until 3:3. Then Hannover scored four straight goals and jumped to a 7:3 lead (18th minute). The visitors controlled the match. They stretched the margin to five in the middle of the fourth period (11:6). Spandau couldn’t come back.

Spandau entered the third game fantastically. The hosts built a 5-goal advantage after 10 minutes of play (7:2) and maintained the difference until the middle break (11:6). Spandau opened the third period with two quick goals, and it went to 13:6. But Hannover started climbing back. The visitors reduced the gap (8:13). One of the crucial moments happened in the 24th minute. Spandau’s Dmitri Kholod was red-carded (exclusion with substitution after four minutes). Hannover got a penalty and had a man up in the following four minutes. In the 29th minute, Hannover came very close (12:13). Still,53 seconds before the end, Spandau’s Bozic converted a penalty for 14:12. He ended his team’s goalless phase that lasted almost 12 minutes and secured the win for Spandau. In the remaining time, Hannover scored a consolation goal.
