A disgruntled Calgarian made the Mayor of Cowtown an offer she can’t refuse: a fake horse head left on her property. CTV reports that police told them that the latex horse mask was left on Mayor Jyoti Gondek’s driveway at around 3:30 a.m. on April 19th.
Francis Ford Coppola’s 1972 crime drama The Godfather may have inspired the ‘threat’; in it, producer Jack Woltz (played by John Marley) unwisely refused a request from the Corleone family to cast Johnny Fontane (Don Corleone’s godson) in his new film and awoke to find the severed head of his prize thoroughbred in his bed.
The Calgary crime was caught on film by the Mayor’s doorbell camera; the alleged perpetrator also stuck an anti-vaccination sticker on the mayor’s house. Gondek was elected in October of 2021 and is the city’s first female mayor.
The police spokesperson added that the mayor wasn’t aware of the matter until her driver found the costume horse head and reported the incident to police.
Shane Renard Keulker, 43, was charged with one count of criminal harassment and stunting in a motor vehicle.
