Seals Sign First Round Draftee Mike McCannell

The San Diego Seals announced today that transition player Mike McCannell, the team’s first pick in the 2021 NLL Entry Draft, has signed a rookie deal and will join the team immediately. McCannell was selected fifth overall out of Stony Brook University.


“Mike was our first pick in 2021 and had a successful senior season at Stony Brook,” said General Manager and Head Coach Patrick Merrill. “He’s mature, big and strong. He’s a kid we know is ready to make the next step in his career. Mike can provide some depth for our defense and contribute to our transition game. We’re excited to have him join us.”

McCannell was the most highly regarded defenseman in the 2021 NLL Entry Draft. He was one of three first rounders selected by San Diego. The Orangeville, Ontario native registered 74 goals and 135 points in 63 games played at Stony Brook. He set a career-high in goals scored his final season netting 24 goals for the Seawolves. He was first-team all-conference for the AAEC and was named the conference offensive player of the week on April 19. McCannell played junior box lacrosse in Ontario, scoring 27 goals and 75 points in 80 games played out the back door.
