With Philippe Coutinho having made an immediate impact on his return to English football over the weekend, it appears that another former star is being lined up for a Premier League move.
Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Christian Eriksen has reportedly been offered a contract by newly-promoted Brentford.
The Danish international has been with Italian side Inter Milan after leaving Spurs, but suffered a cardiac arrest at Euro 2020 and was subsequently released by the Serie A giants last month.
Such is the impression he made while in England, the midfielder has already received offers from a number of clubs including several in the Premier League, and it appears that Newcastle are among those trying to hijack the Bees’ deal.
As per The Times, both the Magpies and Leicester City are interested in the services of the 29-year-old, who would be available on a free transfer having been released.
Despite Tottenham manager Antonio Conte’s desperation for new signings and the midfielder’s low price tag, it appears that former club Spurs are not currently in the running for the player’s signature.
Eriksen made 226 Premier League appearances for Spurs during a seven year stay in North London, but failed to win a single trophy in the capital, with the 2019 Champions League final defeat to Liverpool the closest he came.
After moving to Italy, Eriksen played 26 Serie A games as Inter cruised to the league title during the 2020/21 campaign, but hasn’t appeared for the club since his medical incident during Denmark’s Euro 2020 Group B opener against Finland.
