Everton part ways with Benitez, as Martinez sounded out
Everton announced on Sunday that they had parted ways with Rafa Benitez, following a defeat to bottom of the table Norwich, their 9th in 12 games.
Benitez faced an uphill task to convince Evertonians that he was the right person for the job at Goodison right from the start, and a haul of 19 points from 19 games – along with a miserable style of play – did nothing to convince the Toffees faithful that he could turn things around.
Everton Football Club can confirm the departure of Rafael Benitez as first team manager.

Speaking to 101 last week, former Everton man Olivier Dacourt claimed that it was always going to be an impossible job for the Spaniard due to his Liverpool ties, claiming:
“When you speak about Rafa Benitez, you think of Liverpool. He won them the biggest trophy in club football! [The Champions League]
“What do you expect from the Everton fans? Even though he came here years after being at Liverpool, it’s still Liverpool and the success that he brought them that he’s known for.”
And, after rumours about potentially sounding out former boss Roberto Martinez, this now seems unlikely, with the Belgian FA keen to keep him for the 2022 World Cup.

So, who could the Toffees turn to?
Two new names enter the fray
Now, as per Sky Sports, two new names have entered the fray, and Everton fans will not be happy.
As per the report, both former Tottenham bosses Nuno Espirito Santo and Jose Mourinho have been linked with the role.
🔵 Nuno Espirito Santo and Jose Mourinho are two new names linked to the Everton job.
✅ The feeling from Duncan Ferguson is that he would welcome the opportunity to manage #EFC until the end of the season, rather than two or three games.

Of course, it remains to be seen whether either link will have any substance behind it, but both would surely welcome the opportunity to manage in the Premier League again.
Next Everton manager odds:
- Roberto Martinez – 4/6
- Duncan Ferguson – 7/2
- Wayne Rooney – 9/2
- Nuno Espirito Santo – 12/1
