Columbus Crew Re-Signs Goalkeeper Evan Bush

January 10, 2022 – Major League Soccer (MLS) – Columbus Crew SC News Release

COLUMBUS – The Columbus Crew today announced that it has re-signed goalkeeper Evan Bush for the 2022 Major League Soccer season with an option for 2023.

“Evan is a talented, veteran goalkeeper with extensive experience in MLS,” said Columbus Crew President & General Manager Tim Bezbatchenko. “Evan is a consummate professional and continues to foster competition and provide depth to our goalkeeper corps. He has stepped in admirably when called upon, including helping us lift the Campeones Cup last fall, and we’re pleased that he will be returning to the Club this season.”

Bush joined the Crew on December 14, 2020, in a trade with Vancouver Whitecaps FC. In 2021, the veteran goalkeeper appeared in four regular-season matches for the Black & Gold, and additionally backstopped the Crew to the 2021 Campeones Cup title, making five saves and earning the shutout in a 2-0 win over Liga MX side Cruz Azul on September 29.

The Ohio native joined CF Montréal in 2011, the team’s final season in the United Soccer League. Bush spent the first nine seasons of his MLS career with CF Montréal, appearing in a total of 176 regular-season matches during that span prior to joining the Whitecaps on September 28, 2020.

To date, Bush has started all 188 MLS regular-season matches in which he has appeared, and has 600 saves and 42 shutouts to his credit. Additionally, Bush has two shutouts in eight post-season appearances.

Crew players are set to report for entrance physicals and testing on January 16 before departing for a training camp in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, from January 18-28. With the seasonal bubble currently encompassing the field at Historic Crew Stadium, the Crew will train in-market from February 1-6 at the OhioHealth Performance Center prior to traveling to Charleston, South Carolina, for the second trip of the preseason from February 7-19.
