A recent golf tournament raised more than $50,000 to support Olive Crest‘s child-abuse prevention and treatment programs in Riverside County.
The organization, with offices in Riverside and Palm Desert, annually helps more than 2,100 children in the county and their families, a news release states.
Darnell Bing, a Jim Thorpe Award fnalist, All-Pac 10 safety and two-time national champion at USC, served as event chair for the inaugural Olive Crest Golf Invitational on Feb. 8 in Indian Wells, public relations representative Madeline Zuckerman said. Former fellow USC teammate Oscar Lua was the event sponsor.
“My wife Rachal and I love to give back, and we believe in the amazing work Olive Crest is doing with at-risk children and their families,” Bing said in the release.
Tracy Fitzsimmons, executive director of Olive Crest Inland and Desert Communities, said the money will go toward expanding services in Riverside County.
“Through the recent pandemic and extended quarantine, our communities have seen a troubling rise in food scarcity, domestic violence, unemployment and need for mental health services,” Fitzsimmons said in the release.
