Juventus centre-back Matthijs de Ligt has refused to be drawn on whether he will leave the Serie A side at the end of the season.
The Dutchman, who has been linked with both Manchester City and Chelsea in recent weeks, has said that he is simply focused on his goals for the current campaign:
“At this moment I just focus on what I have to do on the pitch, how to help the team to improve our place in the table. Winning this [the Champions League] trophy with this jersey is a dream, not just for me, but for everyone. We are improving game after game and we want to continue in this way.”
De Ligt did not impress as Juve were thrashed 4-0 by Chelsea last night. The Blues could have easily scored more, raising questions about the Dutchman’s suitability for the Premier League.
City’s interest in de Ligt is unlikely to be too serious at this stage anyway. Manager Pep Guardiola has four recognised centre-halves in his squad, including Ruben Dias, Aymeric Laporte, John Stones and Nathan Ake.
Were one to be sold then a space for de Ligt could open up. Ake, for example, has been linked with Newcastle after struggling to make an impact at the Etihad but there is no credible source suggesting that the former Bournemouth player is heading for the exit door.
