Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal manager Fernando Santos why the 36-year-old displayed another emotional outburst after the 2-1 loss to Serbia last weekend.
Portugal’s loss meant the side will have to depend on the play-offs to make it to the 2022 Qatar World Cup. The situation could have been spared if maximum points were claimed against Ireland the Serbs.
After last Sunday’s final whistle, Ronaldo, perhaps true to character, visibly lost his cool in front of the cameras and some of which directly to the national side boss.
The tactician has since been asked to share why the Manchester United star threw the tantrum.
“He was telling the other guy that there [in Serbia for a qualifier in March this year] he had scored a goal at the last minute and that the referee didn’t count [it],” Santos said as reported by Eurosport.
“That’s what he was saying at the time.
“On the field, he said that we scored a goal there and the referee didn’t, but it’s his outburst.
“It’s perfectly normal. Now no one goes after a game to explain what happened or didn’t happen. I went to raise the players’ heads,” he concluded.
Meanwhile, Ronaldo is looking ahead to club football this weekend as United visit Watford for an English Premier League battle.
