£180,000-a-week Arsenal player backed for shock Manchester City move

Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette is enjoying a run in the team right now, but he is still being backed for a shock move to Manchester City.

Shaun Wright-Phillips – formerly of City and England as well as being the son of former Arsenal hero Ian Wright – has suggested that Pep Guardiola needs a striker.

Sergio Aguero left over the summer and Gabriel Jesus is playing as more of a winger this season.

That means City have mostly played a false nine this season, leading to some frustrating results.

The 2-0 home defeat to Crystal Palace was very disappointing, and Wright-Phillips wants a new striker.

Speaking to The Sun, Wright-Phillips suggested that Arsenal ace Lacazette could help City’s striking issues.

Wright-Phillips feels that Lacazette ‘knows where the goal is’ but can also bring people into play in the final third, which could be perfect for the likes of Phil Foden, Jack Grealish and Bernardo Silva.

“Someone was talking to me about it the other day and I said ‘for me I would sign Ollie Watkins’. Or even Lacazette, he knows where the goal is,” said Wright-Phillips. “He knows how to bring people into play and I always believe that when he plays for Arsenal, their front three behind him seem to play better, there seems to be more of a link-up between them,” he added.

Arsenal may let Lacazette go, but would City really want him?

Lacazette is out of contract at the end of the season. It doesn’t look like Arsenal will be renewing his £180,000-a-week deal.

If City or any other team came up with a cash offer in January, Arsenal may well be tempted to accept before Lacazette leaves for nothing.

However, it seems unlikely that City would be interested in luring Lacazette away from Arsenal.

The Frenchman isn’t quite the athlete that many City players are, and whilst he presses well for Arsenal, there would be questions about him playing in such a high-energy system like City’s.

Add in that Lacazette is 30 and it’s just hard to see City investing in a player of Lacazette’s profile, even if he may be able to offer some short-term help.
