Manchester City head coach Gareth Taylor says that Sunday’s opponents Leicester City are not a million miles away from getting points on the board in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League.
The Foxes have lost all five matches since being promoted to the Barclays FA Women’s Super League at the end of last season but they have still been in their last couple of games until the final few minutes.
When speaking in his pre-match press conference, Manchester City boss Taylor acknowledged the fact that Leicester City are beginning to bed into life in the top flight, indicating that the East Midlands club are capable of causing an upset on their day.
“I think that they have been unfortunate not to put points on the board,” Taylor said. “I don’t think that they’re a million miles off what is required to stay in the league, hopefully, they’ll achieve that this season.
“You always go into any fixture and look at it to determine whether you are the favourites, underdogs or is it more of an even game? People will be expecting us to go there and do a job but others may be looking at our current form and thinking that there may be potential for an upset.
“That’s what we have to live with, that’s what we have to deal with. We really respect Leicester and the team that they are and what they are trying to achieve but it will be about us and making sure that we execute the objective of the game.”
Taylor went on to highlight the importance of trying to get an early goal at The King Power Stadium on Sunday, commenting that Leicester City will grow in confidence the longer that they remain in the game.
He said “These types of games can be decided if you score early on as it settles the nerves and probably allows you to go on and win convincingly.
“On other occasions, the longer it remains a tight scoreline, the energy levels are going to go up. They have been a little bit unfortunate against Chelsea and a couple of others where they have been in it for long periods and sometimes you then just need that little bit of good fortune to go your way.”
