Some interesting news surfaced on the trail over the weekend for a key commit in the 2022 Texas football recruiting class, four-star Tyler Legacy running back Jamarion Miller. Texas and new head coach Steve Sarkisian saw Miller take what seems like an impromptu visit with head coach Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide last weekend.
While Sark and this Longhorns staff apparently don’t mind their commits in the 2022 class exploring other options by visiting other schools this fall, it sounds like Miller’s trip to Tuscaloosa came as a bit of a surprise. As someone that obviously follows the Longhorns close on the recruiting trail, this visit surely wasn’t well known to Texas fans weeks before it took place.
According to a report from Horns247 (paid content) on Oct. 25, Miller took an official visit with the Crimson Tide over the weekend, specifically on Oct. 23. This was the first official visit that Miller took since his with the Longhorns back in late June. He did have an unofficial with the Oklahoma Sooners in late July.
But it was all quiet on the recruiting front with Miller other than that since the summer. That did change abruptly within the last week or so.
4-Star Texas football RB commit Jamarion Miller visits Alabama officially on Oct. 23
It’s hard to believe that Alabama could be making moves with a blue-chip Texas commit like Miller, and for the coaching staff not to be worried about it at least a little bit. When Alabama makes moves like this, it is really difficult to ignore.
Granted, this Horns247 report does note that it still seems like Miller’s commitment to Texas is solid for the time being. This will be an ongoing storyline that is important to watch moving forward.
Texas only has one commit in their 2022 class that is currently rated higher than Miller. That is the recently committed four-star Spearman (TX) athlete/wide receiver Brenen Thompson. It goes without saying that keeping the commitment of Miller around is pretty pivotal for Sark, running backs coach Stan Drayton, and the Longhorns this fall.
Miller is one of 22 commits that Sark and the Longhorns currently hold in the 2022 class. An important stretch of weeks to come ahead of the start of the Early Signing Period is about to begin as the calendar turns from October to November.
