George Caulkin has been speaking on Pod on the Tyne about when Newcastle United’s owners are hoping to have a new manager in place.
Newcastle confirmed earlier this week that it would indeed be Graeme Jones who takes charge of the club on an interim basis and would lead the Magpies against Crystal Palace. Following his first press conference, the former Luton Town boss has revealed he will also oversee the clash at home to Chelsea.

Jones has taken over at a difficult time for Newcastle on the pitch, as they are yet to win and now face a Crystal Palace side who are yet to lose at Selhurst Park before they welcome Chelsea to St. James’ Park the week after. Since Thomas Tuchel’s men are yet to lose away from home, Jones will certainly have a task on his hands to get any points, but after those two games, a new man may be in the dugout.
Caulkin has revealed when PCP Capital Partners are wanting to have a new manager in place.
“The business there that Chris [Waugh] mentioned about an interim manager, that was something that was floated last week, as he says. At the same time, I’ve heard from a very senior source that ideally, they would like to have somebody in place within the next couple of weeks, certainly, you know, perhaps by the international break.
“But the way the decision for [Steve] Bruce to leave took a very, very long time, and so, you know, are they in that position?”
TIF Thoughts on Newcastle’s potential new manager…
It is a smart move from the new owners to install Jones as an interim manager as he has been in and around the squad since he arrived in January, so he knows the players and they will be fairly used to his methods, while he is clearly highly rated within football as well, given that he was part of Gareth Southgate’s backroom staff for Euro 2020.
However, if his tenure is to only last two or three games, then Newcastle fans can still keep thinking and wondering about who their new manager will be, although Rudy Galetti has claimed that it could be Paulo Fonseca, who has been reportedly offered a three-year deal and could well be in the stands against Palace.
