MESA, Ariz. — While the A’s prepare in Arizona for the season, fans can start to prepare to attend live games at the Coliseum for the first time since 2019.
Alameda County officially moved from the purple reopening tier to the less-restrictive red tier Tuesday, which permits outdoor venues to open their doors to fans at a limited capacity. Yes, that means fans will be back in the stands. And tickets for A’s games will be on sale this month.
How can you get tickets? The A’s are selling vouchers for single-game tickets now and those who purchase the vouchers can buy single-game tickets starting March 18 on the A’s website. Those who do not purchase vouchers can buy single-game tickets starting March 23. Tickets are sold for all regular-season games at the Coliseum — and this year, MLB teams are slated to play all 162, which means 81 home games.
The A’s have already come to an agreement with Alameda County to sell vouchers and single-game tickets for games at the Coliseum at 20% capacity, which means around 11,000 fans can fill seats. Tickets can only be sold in pods of two or four seats — which could change if and when Alameda County moves to the less-restrictive orange and yellow tiers. Beyond the pods, there are other coronavirus safety guidelines in place.
Fans must wear masks throughout the game, except when eating or drinking. All tickets will be delivered on the MLB Ballpark smartphone app, which ensures touchless transactions. And only residents of California can buy tickets and vouchers.
There will also be no concourse purchases. Instead, all food will be purchased and served to attendees in their seats through the MLB Ballpark app, too. Parking will be $30.
Season ticket holders will not have their typical perks, either. They will have priority access to buy single-game tickets, starting on March 19. Members received an email in February alerting season ticket holders that their membership perks would not apply — including the free parking should any member buy a single-game ticket.
A’s Access members received an email last April saying they could apply ticket credits from March, April and May of the 2020 season to the 2021 season to maintain account status, including priority, current standing and locking in a 5% discount off regularly priced 2021 membership rates. Or, they could receive a full refund. All monthly payments have been paused since April.
The A’s say that, given the health restrictions, all the season ticket holder perks are not viable. Every attendee needs to be ticketed individually, which means the season ticket holders who had the freedom to attend games at will cannot be safely accommodated.
