The University of Ghana Handball Team is now known for its consistent defeats in the Greater Accra Handball League, dubbed GAHLCA LEAGUE 2021, having suffered eight defeats in nine games.
On Saturday, October 16th, 2021, they faced off against LEGONITE HANDBALL CLUB (one might say the University’s alumni club) at the Prison’s Handball court, which serves as the official venue for all matches. The UG boys had hoped for at least a draw in this match but were disappointed once again when they were defeated.
The UG defense was put to the test by Emmanuel Sam of the LEGONITE HANDBALL CLUB, who heavily exposed them and earned him numerous 7meter throws (penalties) as a result. The Snowys (LEGONITE) were given a run for their money as a result of this.
As a result, the head coach of the LEGONITE HANDBALL CLUB, Coach E.T. Sabutey, introduced an open gameplay to give his opponent a sense of hope.
Nonetheless, Senam Doe Dade of the UG Handball Team made a huge difference in helping his team close the goal gap. This brought the goal differential down to five. After 60 minutes of play, the game ended with a score of 40-35 in favour of LEGONITE.
After the game, both teams were all smiles and hugs, demonstrating the spirit of sportsmanship. The match was overseen by two referees, Ref. Incoom and Ref. Clement, as well as the match delegate, Chief Ref. Theophilus.
