Toronto Maple Leafs forward Wayne Simmonds skated before the team’s practice at Ford Performance Centre on Monday.
Out with fractured wrist sustained on Feb. 6 against the Vancouver Canucks, Simmonds was expected to be out of the lineup for six weeks.
“The cast has come off so he’s able to do a lot more; my understanding is the bone is healed,” Keefe said of Simmonds. “It’s just a matter of him now rehabbing and getting is full function back.”
Simmonds did not join the team for their practice session, but skated on his own while the team was away for their five-game road trip out west where they went 3-2-0.
The Scarborough-born Simmonds has five goals in 12 games with this season with the Maple Leafs. Three of his goals have come on the power play.
He started this season on the fourth line but gradually moved up to the second line due to a combination of his performance and injuries.
