There’s no need to limit your fun this year at the Breeders’ Cup to just the two days on which the World Championships will be held, Nov. 5-6 at Del Mar. The entire week leading up to the Breeders’ Cup is loaded with events for racing fans – a full schedule can be found here at the home of the 2021 Breeders’ Cup Festival.
But if you’re budgeting with caution (a week’s worth of partying could get expensive, after all) and you’re looking to support a great cause, we’ve got a suggestion. On Wednesday, Nov. 3, The Jockey Club Safety Net Foundation is bringing back its Fashionable Fillies event after a memorable inaugural fundraiser in 2020.
Not only does the Jockey Club Safety Net know how to throw a party, it also does essential work in providing financial relief and assistance to at-risk members of the very sport that’s being celebrated at the Breeders’ Cup.
“Recipients of the Safety Net Foundation’s support represent virtually every facet of the Thoroughbred industry, from jockeys, trainers, exercise riders, and grooms to office personnel and other employees of racetracks, racing organizations, and breeding farms,” said Shannon Kelly, Executive Director of The Jockey Club Safety Net. “For many we assist, the Safety Net is their one resource, so any donation is a huge help to fulfill our mission.”
The Fashionable Fillies event, called Fashionable Fillies Goes West, is scheduled to start at 3:00 p.m. PT on Nov. 3. It will be held at Del Mar Plaza, a short five-minute trip up Jimmy Durante Drive from Del Mar. Every ticket to the event not only supports the work of the Safety Net, it’s also a pass granting inside access to the sport at one reasonable price point
“Fashionable Fillies Goes West is a fun event. This year, the format is a cocktail party complete with food, custom desserts, live music, and a silent auction. And of course, there is the amazing view from the Del Mar Plaza deck,” Kelly said. “We’re honoring Stephanie Hronis of Hronis Racing and we are partnering with the businesses in Del Mar. It’s a great way for people to kick off the festivities of Breeders Cup week.”
