Cristiano Ronaldo provided another vintage Champions League moment on Wednesday evening, as the Manchester United star gifted his side victory over Villarreal with a 95th minute winner.
The Portuguese had endured a rather quiet evening by his high standards, but came up trumps with a dramatic added time winner to send the Old Trafford crowd wild and maintain his impressive record since returning to Manchester.
One player who didn’t enjoy the evening quite as much as most, however, was midfielder Donny van de Beek.
The Dutchman was once again named among the substitutes by manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and was left visibly frustrated when he was snubbed by his manager, who instead chose to introduce Jesse Lingard from the bench.
The Netherlands international has endured a difficult time with the Red Devils since joining from Ajax last summer, starting just five league games in total since joining.
Van de Beek has been an unused substitute six times this season
Solskjaer has favoured the likes of Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes, as well as Fred, Scott McTominay and Nemanja Matic, leaving Van de Beek to settle for a place on the bench more often than not.
Now, however, it appears that the 24-year-old has had enough, with the Daily Mail reporting that the midfielder is ready to push once again for a move away from the club.
The report says that the Dutchman will make an effort to secure a move away as early as January, having run out of patience at the club.
The player, who cost United £40 million 12 months ago, is believed to be intent on regaining his place in the Netherlands squad for next year’s World Cup in Qatar.
He had been left out of the nation’s latest squad having played just five minutes of league football this season.
A loan move to Everton had been proposed over the summer, with both parties believed to be keen, however his current employers blocked the move on deadline day, insisting that Van de Beek would see an increase in game time.
Two months on, however, the situation has not improved and it appears that the midfielder has now run out of patience entirely.
