Atletico Madrid got back to winning ways in LaLiga by defeating Barcelona 2-0 at the Wanda Metropolitano.
Goals in the first half from Thomas Lemar and Luis Suarez were enough to secure the three points for Diego Simeone’s men to move them level with Real Madrid at the top of the table.
Madrid opened the scoring inside 23 minutes of play through Thomas Lemar. There was a neat interchange between Joao Felix and Suarez, allowing the latter to release Lemar into the left-inside channel. He held his composure to blast his effort past Ter Stegen into the net.
A minute to half time, Suarez made it 2-0. The hosts hit Barcelona on the break and this time Suarez converted the opening. Lemar was played into space down the left flan by Felix who lifted a cross over the last defender Pique. Suarez took a touch before calmly picking his spot, firing low into the bottom-left corner.
Barca slumped to their second loss of the week, and the calls for Ronald Koeman’s dismissal may only grow after another disappointing result.
