Mitchell Starc: The Australian speedster was among the wickets in the last session of the third day at the Adelaide Oval.
During the third day of the 16th match of the ongoing season of the Sheffield Shield between South Australia and New South Wales in Adelaide, New South Wales spearhead Mitchell Starc was back among the wickets to make early inroads into the South Australian batting lineup.
Sharing the new ball with Josh Hazlewood, Starc dismissed South Australia opening batsman Henry Hunt (0) on the penultimate delivery of his first over.
Bowling from over the wicket, Starc brought the ball into the right-hand batsman to find him wanting in front of the stumps. Yet to get his eye in, Hunt was in no position to cope with Starc’s express pace.
On the penultimate delivery of his second over, Starc replicated a similar dismissal sending back Liam Scott (0) this time as South Australia’s No. 3 also had no clue against the left-arm fast bowler.
It was a 77-run partnership for the third wicket between South Australia opening batsman Jake Weatherald (42*) and captain Travis Head (44) which stitched a rescue act for the hosts. Having scored 93/3 in 32 overs at Stumps, South Australia have a 209-run lead under their belt.
While Starc bowled 21 wicket-less overs in the first innings, him scoring an impressive 54* (101) with the help of four fours and two sixes seems to have instilled confidence in him.
Resuming from their overnight score of 177/4, New South Wales put on board 366/7 before declaring their innings. Continuing from 86* from last evening, Kurtis Patterson (102) went on to score his ninth first-class century.
