Europa Wrap: Napoli Comeback Denies Leicester, Celtic Stunned

Leicester City blew a two-goal lead as Victor Osimhen netted twice late to earn Napoli a 2-2 draw in their Europa League opener on Thursday.

The Foxes had gone ahead from Ayoze Perez’s ninth-minute strike before Harvey Barnes, who set up the opener, doubled their advantage in the 64th minute.

Osimhen poked a goal in to make it 2-1 in the 69th minute, before firing home an 87th-minute equaliser.

Wilfried Ndidi received a second yellow card late to make matters worse for Leicester, with manager Brendan Rodgers left disappointed.

“We’re obviously disappointed we didn’t win the game,” Rodgers said. “We were in a great position, but we were playing against a really experienced team and we just couldn’t see it through. We’ll learn from that.

“I said to the players afterwards, there was so many good things in the game, but we’ve got to keep the ball better because by the end, when you don’t have the ball so much and you’re chasing the game, you can tire that little bit.

“We had some players getting their first 90 minutes of the season as well, and then obviously, their big striker (Victor Osimhen), who’s 70-odd-million (pounds), so you can see his quality, and he gets his two goals.”

Elsewhere, West Ham United won 2-0 away to Dinamo Zagreb with goals from Michail Antonio and Declan Rice.

Celtic led 2-0 early away to Real Betis before the Spaniard fought back to win 4-3, while Rangers lost 2-0 at home to Olympique Lyon.

Galatasaray edged Lazio 1-0, Olympique Marseille drew 1-1 at Lokomotiv Moscow, Monaco won 1-0 over Sturm Graz, PSV and Real Sociedad drew 2-2 and Bayer Leverkusen beat Ferencvaros 2-1.
