Leeds United fans on Twitter have been sharing their thoughts on Whites attacker Rodrigo and his time at the club so far.
This comes after Leeds journalist Phil Hay shared a post on his official Twitter page that contained an article he wrote for The Athletic on the Spaniard and whether or not playing him as an attacking-midfielder has been beneficial for the team.
In the caption to his post, Hay said that “the fact that Barcelona took a shine to Rodrigo in the last window tells you what a good footballer he is.”
This post then grabbed the attention of numerous Leeds supporters who were not shy in sharing their thoughts on the matter:
So, what did these Leeds fans have to say in response to Hay’s post about Rodrigo?
“No and No. Everyone knew we wasted money when we spent £30m on a player that was just about to turn 30. He’s proving them right with terrible performances. Forget “hes out of position”, he looks slow, lethargic and his passing has been atrocious!”
“Poor signing”
“Nope. Not good enough in that position. Wasteful in possession and doesn’t create anything. Needs to be number 9 or nothing.”
“Honestly, as much as we need and want it too. I just can’t see it working out. He doesn’t even seem mobile enough or have the desire to press with the intensity we play at. (I’d like to see his stats) If we were offered around £20m, I’d snap someone’s hand off and re-invest.”
“If he doesn’t start playing well, I think he may be sold in the coming summer. Just my honest opinion; he doesn’t fit, at all. He’s a striker, either in a two or as a false-9 type. Not a no.10 or no.8. He never will be. Disappointing record signing all things considered”
“He’s not fit enough to play for Bielsa. Be it up front or number 10. The press fails when Rodrigo plays. He cant out run Bamford, he cant play 10. He only shines when we play weaker sides who allow us to dominate possession.”
“He’s been absolutely abysmal. He hasn’t even got a good touch which is the minimum you would expect from 30 mil player. When he plays, it’s like we are playing with 1 midfielder. Our hole in centre mid is more glaring every match. A big mistake to not sign another centre mid,”
Looking at the replies to this post from Hay, it appears as though this group of Leeds fans don’t seem to think that Rodrigo has been a successful signing for the Yorkshire club, especially playing in a deeper attacking-midfield position.
Do you think Rodrigo has been a good signing for Leeds?
Yes
No
Taking into account how the 30-year-old has yet to register a goal or assist for Leeds so far this season whilst playing in the attacking-midfield position, it’s easy to see why these fans don’t think he is very effective for the team in that position, especially since the club signed him for a reported club-record fee of £27 million.
Moving forward, we feel that perhaps the best option for Rodrigo would be if Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa gives him a period of time playing in the centre-forward position to see if that would suit him more than his current position.
