HUNTLY can lay claim to three Scottish champions in the sport of Brazilian jiu-jitsu.
Four members of the Huntly Macaco Gold Team martial arts club picked up medals at the Scottish Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Open at the Ravenscraig regional sports centre in Motherwell.
The combat sport involves ground fighting where an athlete tries to force their opponent into submission using a series of holds or locking positions.
The Huntly club sent a number of fighters to last weekend’s tournament, leaving at 5am to make the long journey south in time for the start of the bouts.
A total of 96 gold medals were handed out with the Macao Gold Team regularly on the podium.
Dan Ireland won both the gi and no-gi blue belt -88.3kg weight class (medium heavyweight) at his senior (40-plus) age group.
George Quinn won gold in gi and silver in no-gi at the under-94kg white belt category.
Competing in the ultra division (100kg-plus) white belt masters one, Kevin Raffan won the gi gold.
George Ireland claimed bronze in the under-64kg white belt adult gi competition.
Ethan Beaumont, who trains with the group but fights for Macaco Gold Team Elgin, won no-gi gold and gi silver in the under88.3kg purple belt masters one class.
Head coach Matt Holland leads both the Huntly and Elgin clubs.
