Reanne Evans has won the UK Women’s Snooker Championship for a record-extending tenth time following a 4-0 victory against Rebecca Kenna in Leeds.
Top seed Evans was among a strong field at the first event staged by the World Women’s Snooker Tour since the onset of the coronavirus pandemic over 18 months ago and was looking to defend the title that she also claimed in 2019 at the Northern Snooker Centre.
Following victories against Connie Stephens and Chucky Preston in the early rounds, she was given a stern test in the semi-fials by Welsh number one Laura Evans who led 2-1, before winning the final three frames to claim a 4-2 success and her place in the final.
There she would await second seed Rebecca Kenna, who earlier in the day had recovered from 2-0 down to defeat Maria Catalano 3-2, before winning the final two frames against Emma Parker to deny the former world under-21 champion her first appearance in a ranking event final.
But there was to be no comeback for Kenna in the title match as it was Evans who edged the opening two frames to move halfway to victory, before easing clear to claim yet another UK title. The win consolidates her already dominant position at the head of the world rankings and represents her 63rd women’s snooker title overall.
The highest break of the weekend was a run of 81 by Kenna in the opening frame of her semi-final.
Side Tournaments
There were victories for Steph Daughtery and Michelle Brown in the Under-21 and Seniors tournaments held alongside the main tournament. For Daughtery, her 2-0 success against Chloe White in the final earned her a third junior title at the UK Championship, following back to back wins in 2015 and 2016, and her sixth title in all.
A 2-0 victory for Brown against Jenny Poulter meanwhile represented her first Tour silverware since she also claimed the seiors crown at the same event six years ago in Leeds.
Sunday’s Challenge Cup competition saw a field of 22 players contest the title, with debutant Jamie Hunter defeating Mariia Shevchenko of Russia 2-0 to score her first title win.
World Women’s Snooker would like to thank all of the players, officials and supporters who helped to make the return of the Tour such a memorable occasion, as well as of course our fantastic hosts at the Northern Snooker Centre, who have always provided incredible support for women’s snooker.
