Ruben Dias has signed a new six-year contract to stay at Manchester City until June 2027.
Dias joined Man City last summer after spending 12 years with Benfica and instantly impressed in central defence in 50 appearances across all competitions, as he helped City to the Premier League and Carabao Cup titles and runners-up spot in last season’s Champions League title.
The 24 year-old was also voted as the Football Writers Association’s Footballer of the Year and likewise for Man City, Premier League and Champions League Player of the Year awards, as well as named amongst Premier League, Champions League and European Sports Media’s Team of Year honours.
Dias spoke of feeling “very happy” to tie his future down to City for the next six years, having “enjoyed every single minute of my time at City since joining last year.”
Reflecting on his time at the club so far, Dias added: “Playing for City has surpassed all my expectations and it’s an absolute pleasure to be part of such an incredible squad.”
Dias also praised manager, Pep Guardiola and his coaching staff for helping him to develop his game and is now “hungry to achieve even more.”
City Director of Football, Txiki Begiristain added that Dias’ new contract “is great news” for the club moving forward, after the defender proved himself as “such a vital part of our squad.”
Speaking about Dias’ qualities, Begiristain said: “He is everything you would want in a central defender and so much more and he will be a big part of our drive to bring even more success to the Club over the next few years.”
Dias is also a member of Portugal’s national team and played a key role in The Navigators’ run to the Last 16 of this summer’s Euros, where they lost to Belgium thus relinquishing their title defence which was ultimately won by Italy.
