James Garner has renewed his contract at Manchester United and sealed a season-long loan move to Nottingham Forest.
Garner has signed a new three-year contract with option for an additional year to remain at Old Trafford despite having made just seven senior appearances for Manchester United under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, since graduating to the senior team under Jose Mourinho in summer 2018.
Last season saw Garner enjoy 41 appearances in total across two loan spells in Sky Bet Championship at Watford and Forest respectively, with the 20 year-old impressing at the latter club after scoring four goals in 20 appearances and will now re-join Forest on a season-long loan.
Speaking on his decision to sign a new contract at Old Trafford, Garner admitted to feeling “made up” after having been part of the club for over a decade through the Academy ranks.
Garner went on to iterate that his ambition is to break through into the first-team as a regular, saying: “I’m made up, Manchester United has been a massive part of my life for over 10 years now. My ambitions are obviously to become a first-team player here.
“I know exactly what it takes, I’m ready to go and showcase my ability to everyone and keep on striving for all my goals.”
The young midfielder also took confidence from the new deal as he feels that this contract demonstrates “the faith that the club has in me,” with feeling of “extra motivation” in his development.
Garner also revealed that his “ultimate aim” is to become a “big player for this club one day,” as he vowed to work hard to achieve that dream.
Gunnar Solskjaer meanwhile admitted that he was “impressed” by Garner’s performances in pre-season, although the Norwegian added that the youngster needed another loan move to boost his development.
Explaining the decision, Gunnar Solskjaer said: “I think for his career, another season, or another six months now to start with, playing regularly in the Championship will help him.”
