August 21, 2021 – Major League Soccer (MLS) – Seattle Sounders FC News Release
Seattle Sounders FC celebrate a goal
(Seattle Sounders FC)
SEATTLE, WASH. – After its third consecutive road victory, this time against FC Dallas by a score of 1-0, Seattle Sounders FC (11-3-6, 39 points) travels to the Midwest, visiting Columbus, Ohio for its third road match in a week to take on the Crew (6-8-6, 24 points) in a 2020 MLS Cup Final rematch.
The two sides have not met since Columbus defeated the Rave Green 3-0 en route to its second MLS Cup. Seattle is 6-4-5 all-time against the Crew in regular-season matchups, with Sounders FC holding a 4-2-1 advantage in the state of Ohio. The last regular-season matchup between the two sides came in March of 2020, which ended in a 1-1 draw at Lumen Field. It was the last game for the Rave Green before the stoppage of play in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Since gaining one point in a stretch of three home games between July 25 and August 4, Seattle has yet to lose. It dominated Tigres UANL 3-0 in the Leagues Cup quarterfinal before the club dismantled Portland 6-2 the following weekend, then headed to Dallas for its midweek victory.
Following Saturday’s match comes the 2021 MLS All-Star Game in Los Angeles on August 25, with a club-record six Sounders FC players selected. The Rave Green return to action against archrival Portland Timbers on August 29 (7:30 p.m. PT / ESPN, 950 KJR AM, El Rey 1360 AM). The Cascadia clash is part of a special day of soccer that sees NWSL sides OL Reign and Portland Thorns meet in the first game of a scheduled doubleheader at Lumen Field. The day will also see the clubs celebrate the life and legacy of Jimi Hendrix.
