Birmingham Legion FC vs Sporting Kansas City II

Wednesday, August 11 – 7:00PM CT Kickoff

BBVA Field – Birmingham, AL

Stats – Legion FC Match Center

Legion FC returns home to face Sporting KC II for the first time this season on Wednesday night at BBVA Field. Playing a fourth game in under two weeks, Legion FC will have to quickly rebound from their 3-1 weekend loss at Tulsa FC.

After conceding early in the first half, Birmingham came back to equalize in the second half, as forward Jaden Servania drew a penalty just minutes after stepping onto the field, which was buried by Neco Brett for his 10th goal of the season. Brett now sits outright in second in the USL Championship Golden Boot Race.

Defenders Jonny Dean and Ryan James continue to be dangerous in the attack as well, as both fullbacks combine for 39 chances created. JJ Williams will look to continue good form, scoring and assisting in Legion’s last home game. Williams has 19 chances, two goals, and three assists this season.

Sporting KC II is hoping to put an end to its dip in form, coming to BHM winless in its last four games and eighth in the division, however, the team is just eight points behind third place FC Tulsa. While the team has just one win in its last six games, three of those matches have been against the division leaders Louisville City FC. The recent win was also on the road (at Atlanta on July 10) so the team will have belief they can win again in BHM.

Forward Enoch Mushagalusa will be their danger man going forward, as he is first on the team in goals (six) and shots (41), is tied for team-lead in assists (two) and is second in chances created (16) behind Jacob Davis’s 17.

These two teams did not meet in 2020 but did face off twice in Legion FC’s inaugural season in 2019, with the first meeting coming to a draw in Birmingham and SKC winning the return leg.

On this week’s VIVA Health injury report, Legion FC forward Junior Flemmings (ankle) and midfielder Daigo Kobayashi (knee) are questionable, and midfielder Bruno Lapa is out due to a sports hernia. Defender Freddy Kleemann has been recalled from loan by Austin FC.
