Norwich City have signed USA international, Josh Sargent from Werder Bremen in a £8m deal until June 2025.
Sargent departs Bremen after scoring 15 goals in 81 appearances across the reserves and senior team since 2018-19 season, although his seven goals couldn’t help prevent the team suffering relegation from the Bundesliga at end of last season.
Speaking to canaries.co.uk about his move, Sargent revealed that he had “always wanted to play in the Premier League,” so views this chance as “a very exciting opportunity” for himself.
The 21 year-old also spoke about his impressions of the team, as he said: “”I heard it’s a good group of guys and I talked with the head coach already and I really like what they’re trying to do here.”
Sargent mainly plays as a forward but believes that his versatility won’t stop him from scoring, adding: ” I like to think my main position is a number nine, but I am also very versatile. No matter where I play, everyone can expect that I will give my all, my 100 percent and hopefully score some goals.”
Manager, Daniel Farke meanwhile is “really happy” to have secured Sargent’s services, as he praised the youngster’s future potential, whilst also crediting Sporting Director – Stuart Webber for getting the transfer completed.
Sargent’s arrival also boosts Norwich’s attacking options which is currently limited to Teemu Pukki, Adam Idah and Jordan Hugill, although Farke believes that Sargent has the pace and aerial ability on top of “big workload” will provide a strong alternative to his tactical availability.
Farke though is confident that he has a strong player who has long-term potential in English football, commenting: “We think we have a player in Josh who can contribute and develop into a top goalscorer on Premier League level.”
Sargent is Norwich’s second signing this summer from Werder Bremen after Milot Rashica joined the club in June.
