Youngster Alex Hennessy netted two goals as Arsenal defeated Tottenham Hotspur 4-0 in a pre-season North London derby at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this afternoon.
The teenager scored a goal in each half as Jonas Eidevall’s under-strength side recorded an impressive victory over their neighbours in The Mind Series.
Arsenal dominated the first half at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and The Gunners took the lead in the 34th minute when Hennessy headed the ball home from an Anna Patten cross.
Despite their dominance, Eidevall’s side had to wait until the 75th minute to add to their lead when Beth Mead drew a foul in the box to win her side a penalty kick. Katie McCabe stepped up to take the spot kick and she easily beat Spurs keeper Tinja-Riikka Korpela from 12 yards.
From that point forward, things got significantly easier for Arsenal as they extended their lead further. First, Patten crowned an impressive performance with a sweet strike across goal with the ball nestling in the far corner of the net before Hennessy completed her dream afternoon with a brace, tapping home a Lisa Evans pass in second half injury time.
Arsenal’s first competitive fixture of the season is just 10 days away with The Gunners set to contest their UEFA Women’s Champions League Round 1 semi-final fixture with FC Okhetpes in Moscow.
