HYDERABAD: Who will represent the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) at the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) special general body meeting (SGM) to be held on May 29?
The beleaguered HCA was further mired in controversy with secretary R Vijayanand saying that the cricket body’s AGM held in April had chosen former Test player and BCCI’s interim president N Shivlal Yadav as representative at the BCCI and president Mohd Azharuddin on Saturday lashing out at his opponents by saying that the former HCA office-bearer was not qualified.
“We have sent an email to the BCCI informing the decision and requesting them to send the virtual password to Shivlal Yadav to enable him to attend the virtual SGM,” Vijayanand had said.
Countering it, Azharuddin said: “I am surprised to read the press note issued by the secretary. With all due respects to my senior colleague in the cricketing area, I would like to affirmatively state that Shivlal Yadav has completed 17 years of cumulative tenure as an office-bearer. He served as joint secretary from 1992 to 2000 and as secretary from 2000 to 2008. This information is available on the HCA website and in the roll of honour displayed at the HCA office in Uppal.”
Rule 6(5)(f) of the HCA constitution states “A person shall be disqualified from being a representative to the BCCI if he/she has been an office-bearer of a state association or the BCCI for a cumulative period of 9 years.”
Quoting the rule, Azharuddin said: “The rule is self-explanatory for anyone who can read English reasonably well.” He further alleged that some of the office-bearers were firing from the shoulders of a senior cricketer & administrator to establish their power.
“There is no bar on a person who completes nine years at the state association from attending the BCCI meeting as a representative. If it were so, how are Niranjan Shah and Brijesh Patel amongst others attending the BCCI meetings even though they are not eligible to contest elections in their state associations? Only if a person completes 70 years of age, he cannot go to the BCCI. Hence, I will be attending the meeting as it is the wish of the members. I am going to ask the BCCI to give Hyderabad some good matches in the T20 World Cup,” Shivlal told ToI.
The former Test off-spinner also added that the BCCI’s legal department will take a call on whom to invite for the meet. “They are going to look into all aspects and then decide on it. Basically, Azharuddin walked out of the AGM without completing the agenda and that could go against him,” he said.
‘CEO appointment not proper’
Azharuddin also hit out at the secretary regarding the appointment of the CEO. “If they are so clean, let them demonstrate their compliance to 23(1)(3)(4) and not give blanket statements. They should know the meaning of the word transparent and let them demonstrate it by showing the records. Without that everything else is a hollow claim,” he said.
“Which Apex Council is he talking about? The Apex Council of those who were named for collusion by the high court? The Apex Council that only meets to save their clubs in the guise of governance? Do these folks even know how to conduct interviews and assess the efficiency of a potential candidate? They just want to use their majority and ensure that their proxy control is continued by installing a puppet CEO,” he said.
