Chairman of national cricket selectors Rajendra Mangalie says the T&T Red Force victory in the Super 50 Cup on Saturday was an important one for cricket in this country.
The composition of the team was criticized for its selection of several veteran players, some of whom had not played for Trinidad and Tobago for several years.
The Kieron Pollard-led team won the title for the first time in five years, beating the Guyana Jaguars by 152 runs on Saturday.
“In anything, there will always be critics. Criticism makes you stronger in cricket or anything you do in life. We had a good team with some senior players. We also had some youngsters and there was a good collaboration with everybody. So I think that this year was an important year for us,’ Mangalie said.
“It was good for cricket in T&T,” said Mangalie, “People were really elated. They were really happy about what happened to Trinidad and Tobago cricket. We got plenty of compliments from people. At the end of the day, what is important is winning the title.”
Trinidad and Tobago now have won the regional 50-over title 13 times, a record for the tournament.
