Man Utd must sell in-form Lingard

Manchester United could be in line for a summer windfall, with West Ham United interested in signing Jesse Lingard on a permanent deal.

The England midfielder has been in exhilarating form for the Hammers since he arrived at the London Stadium on a loan deal, triggering suggestions that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could look to reintroduce him into the Red Devils’ squad and offer him a new contract.

However, reports from Claret and Hugh indicate that West Ham have made Lingard a priority signing in the summer. The Red Devils should also make sure this is a transfer which goes through.

Should Manchester United sell Lingard?

Yes

No

No

Despite his great form under David Moyes, having netted five goals and notched three assists in just seven Premier League appearances, the 28-year-old seemingly no longer has a place in the Manchester United squad.

The likes of Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood, Daniel James and even Amad Diallo all appear to be preferred by Solskjaer. Lingard has made just 38 starts under the Norwegian since the 48-year-old replaced Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford, only appearing three times during 2020/21 before leaving for West Ham United.

His form has also taken a drastic downturn under Solskjaer, scoring just seven goals and providing five assists. For context, he contributed more than that during his last full season under the stewardship of Jose Mourinho alone.

For a player who seemingly has no future at Old Trafford, it would also be clever for Ed Woodward to sell whilst the 28-year-old still holds some value.

He will have just one year left on his current Red Devils’ deal come the summer, so his £13.5m Transfermarkt value will only serve to fall as that date creeps ever nearer.

It would serve Manchester United well to cash in on West Ham’s interest in Lingard whilst they still can.
