BUIES CREEK — After leading Campbell to a runner-up finish in the Tar Heel Intercollegiate, Pontus Nyholm and Romain Lanteri have been selected for weekly Big South Conference men’s golf honors.
Nyholm was named golfer of the week, while Lanteri was chosen as freshman of the week.
A senior, Nyholm posted round scores of 70, 69 and 66 to finish 11-under, good enough for runner-up in the Tar Heel Intercollegiate on Monday.
He made as many eagles (two) as bogeys in the final round and added four birdies. Nyholm made the turn at 5-under and after six straight pars, bogeyed the par-four 16th. However, he responded with his second eagle on the par-five 17th to finish at 205, two strokes better than he shot earlier in the month to win the Southern Invitational.
Nyholm led the Camels to their best team finish – second – on the season. He is now ranked No. 36 in both the PGA Tour University standings and Golfstat national rating, and is No. 79 in the latest World Amateur Golf Rankings. His stroke average stands at a league-leading 70.4 through 4 events.
A redshirt freshman, Lanteri turned in a career-best finish (218 total score) after a final round that included three birdies. Lanteri made 38 pars over 54 holes.
The honor marks the second of the spring season for Nyholm and Lanteri. Both were also recognized on March. 4.
The Camels continue their spring campaign Monday, April 5, for the two-day Golfweek Challenge at True Blue GC in Pawley’s Island, South Carolina.
