WNBA All-Star Game FAQ
The WNBA announced the pool of starters for the 2022 All-Star Game:
- Sue Bird, Storm (13th All-Star selection)
- Sylvia Fowles, Lynx (8th All-Star selection)
- Sabrina Ionescu, Liberty (1st All-Star selection)
- Jonquel Jones, Sun (4th All-Star selection)
- Nneka Ogwumike, Sparks (7th All-Star selection)
- Candace Parker, Sky (7th All-Star selection)
- Kelsey Plum, Aces (1st All-Star selection)
- Breanna Stewart, Storm (4th All-Star selection
- A’ja Wilson, Aces (4th All-Star selection)
- Jackie Young, Aces (1st All-Star selection)
Honorary Starter Status for Griner
Phoenix Mercury center Brittney Griner (currently unlawfully detained in Russia), a seven-time All-Star, will be an honorary All-Star and starter.
“During each season of Brittney’s career in which there has been an All-Star Game, she has been selected as an All-Star,” league commissioner Cathy Engelbert said. “It is not difficult to imagine that if BG were here with us this season, she would once again be selected and would, no doubt, show off her incredible talents. So, it is only fitting that she be named as an honorary starter today and we continue to work on her safe return to the U.S.”
WNBA All-Star Game Captains
Co-captains (selected from leaders of fan voting):
- A’ja Wilson (Las Vegas Aces)
- Breanna Stewart (Seattle)
Wilson and Stewart will be paired with two additional co-captains: retiring legends Sue Bird and Sylvia Fowles. Bird will be paired with Wilson. Fowles will be paired with Stewart.
All-Star Reserves Selection
League coaches will vote for reserves and the selections will be announced Tuesday, June 28. Coaches can vote for three guards, five frontcourt players, and four players at either position, regardless of conference. They cannot vote for their own players. If a player is unable to play in the All-Star game for any reason, a replacement player will be named to the roster by Commissioner Engelbert.
Co-Captains will draft rosters from the pool of starters and reserves on ESPN on Saturday, July 2 at 3 p.m. ET.
WNBA All-Star Game Details
The All-Star Game will be played at Wintrust Arena in Chicago, home of the defending WNBA Champion Chicago Sky, on Sunday, July 10 (ABC, noon CT/1 p.m. ET).
Full All-Star Voting Results
- Fans accounted for 50 percent of the vote.
- Current WNBA players and a media panel accounted for 25 percent each.
- Players were ranked by position (guard and frontcourt) within each of the three voting groups.
- Fan voting served as the tiebreaker for players in a position group with the same score.
- Each player’s score is weighted based on 50 percent for fan vote, 25 percent for player vote, and 25 percent for media vote.
