Matchday three of the Women’s Spanish league finally saw a full compliment of fixtures. Mataro, Sabadell, Mediterrani and Terrassa all secured wins, while Catalunya scraped past Boadilla and Sant Feliu brushed off Madrid’s Concepcion.

Mediterrani bounced back from their mid-week defeat to Sabadell with a commanding 18-3 victory over Zaragoza. Clara Espar was the top goal scorer in the game for Mediterrani with four goals, while Sarah Lizotte netted three. Mediterrani have started the season well despite that Sabadell defeat on Wednesday, and look good for a finish towards the top end of the table. Zaragoza will no doubt reset as they face the so-far winless Barceloneta next.

Sabadell have taken nine points from their opening three games as they have defeated the newly-promoted Barceloneta at Can Llong by 14 goals to 8. Judith Forca Ariza, who has really started this season well, added another 6 goals to her tally for this season (10), putting her towards the top of the league’s goal scoring charts. Barceloneta are still winless from their first three games, and were certainly second best in this competition despite three goals each for their Serbian duo, Nina Josifovic and Nada Mandic.

Dani Ballart’s Mataro keep on rolling as they too, like Sabadell, have taken maximum points from their first game. The game was fairly level during the midpoint of the game, but Anna Espar’s four goals were good enough to secure the win for Mataro. Mataro weren’t at their best today, but the best always find a way to grind out results. On the other hand, while we saw Sant Andreu in the Spanish Cup last week, this first outing in the league. Playing to the standards of today, they will surely pick up substantial points throughout the season. They will look for their first victory of the season against Boadilla in a few days time.

Catalunya held on against a fierce late revival from Boadilla to take three points away to the side from Madrid. Four goals from Lidia Escoda Mondragon, and three from Susana Diaz won the points for Gabor Egedi’s side, who will consider this a very important three points early in the season.

Sant Feliu were clinical in their first game of the season as they defeated Madrid’s A.R Concepcion by an eleven goal margin. It was a magnificent seven for Sant Feliu’s Mireia Bargallo Garcia, who put seven past the Concepcion keeper’s. Jorge Timblau will hope this convincing victory will help his side built momentum ahead of their clash wither Mediterrani next week, while Concepcion will definitely target their next game, away at Rubi, as being a huge contest they need points from.

Rubi were played out of the pool against a merciless Terrassa at Can Roses this evening. There were braces for Judith Panicello, Martina Cardona, Nin Ten Broek and Pili Pena for Terrassa, while Rubi’s miserable day in front of goal only culminated in conversions from Alba Rodri and Amanda Trivino. This was Rubi’s first game of the season, after postponing their previous two fixtures against Catalunya and Sant Andreu. They’ll hope their superstar, Elena Ruiz, can transfer some of her international form into her club polo if they are to have a successful season.
