As expected, host Hungary won 1st place at the 6th BENU Cup that ended on Friday evening in Budapest.
On the last day, Hungary claimed a 13:9 over the Netherlands and won the tournament with a 3-0 record. France beat Japan (12:9).
The Netherlands, France and Japan collected three points each. The Dutch had the best results among the teams with the same number of points, so they finished 2nd, ahead of France and Japan.
Hungary was quite a better rival than the Netherlands in the first half. At halftime, the hosts had a 4-goal advantage (8:4). However, the Netherlands opened the second half with three straight goals and cut the deficit to 7:8. But, the Dutch couldn’t equalize. Hungary went to the final break with an 11:9 lead and scored two straight goals in the last period for a 13:9 victory.
Japan had a 1:0 and 2:1 lead against France. However, the French, led by Thomas Vernoux (7 goals in the match), took control in the middle of the first period. At halftime, France led 6:4. The Europeans doubled an advantage during the third period(8:4, 10:6) and Japan didn’t endanger their victory.
