Head Coach and Olympic champion Jorge Edson Souza de Brito are already seeing benefits of coaching support
The FIVB continues to support the development of national volleyball teams worldwide as the Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) and its national women’s team begin to lay the foundations for volleyball success with FIVB coaching support.
The FIVB approved 12 months of coaching support for the team which began this July. As part of the project, the FIVB appointed Head Coach Brazilian Jorge Edson Souza de Brito, a volleyball Olympic gold medallist at the Olympic Games Barcelona 1992, to help players maximise their potential.
De Brito is currently working alongside the PNVF in the organisation of training, try-outs and league schedules to lay a strong foundation for volleyball to thrive in the Philippines in the future. The PNVF also aims to send the team to Europe or South America to gain experience through international friendly matches.
FIVB President Dr Ary S. Graça F° said:
“We at the FIVB are always seeking to grow our sport, and the most effective way to achieve this is by reinvesting the money that comes from the sport back into volleyball. The PNVF has laid out a roadmap for the development of the sport in the Philippines and I am excited to see the progress that is made over the next seven months with FIVB coaching support.”
PNVF President Mr Ramon Suzara said:
“Brazilian coach Jorge Edson Souza de Brito has been doing an excellent job so far in building the foundation of a potentially strong and top-level Philippine women’s national volleyball team. We can already see the results of his work and are looking to expand this development to our men’s team in the future.
“We are very grateful for the support of the FIVB and excited for the future of the PNVF and volleyball in the Philippines”
Head Coach Jorge Edson Souza de Brito said:
“I envision a bright future for the Philippine women’s volleyball team. It will take time but we have now diligently started laying the foundations.
“The goal is to be on par with the best in Asia – Japan, South Korea and China, among others. I can even see the potential for the Philippines to be a top-level team not only in Asia, but in the world. The support from the FIVB combined with the talent and dedication of the players is what is making this possible.”
The Philippine National Volleyball Federation is now working for the benefits of athletes and the volleyball community in the country.
