Swimming and Diving Holds Lead Headed to Final Day of NEC Championships

The Central Connecticut swimming team continued to hold the overall team lead following Friday night at the 2022 Northeast Conference Championships at the Spire Institute in Geneva, OH. Junior Jeannette King highlighted the night with a NCAA B-cut time in the 100 backstroke. The Blue Devils head into the final day of competition with a 23-point advantage in the team standings.

Following three days of competition CCSU has 521 points to lead the team standings. Bryant is in second with 498.

The five-day competition continues on Saturday with 10:00 a.m. prelim races, and finals to be held at 6:00 p.m.

KEY PERFORMANCES (Day 4)

  • 200 Fly– In the night’s opening event, CCSU had freshman Ashley Calderon (2:04.62) and sophomore Shannon Welcome (2:05.94) both score in the championship final.
  • 100 Back – Junior Jeannette King, who achieved an NCAA B-Cut time in the prelims, placed second with another B-cut time in the finals of 53.88. Freshman Kelly Stotler (57.80), junior Hallie Perrin (58.25) and freshman Nathalie Pena (58.31) all scored points in the event.
  • 100 Breast – Freshman Cassidy Stotler won silver with a time of 1:02.13. Junior Alex Lindgren (1:04.54) and sophomore Abby Bacon (1:06.53) each scored in the championship final as CCSU collected 42 points in the event.
  • 400 Medley Relay – CCSU won its only event of the night with a time of 3:44.67 to edge out gold. The relay of King, Cassidy Stotler, Calderon and junior Katie Czulewicz won the event by .36 seconds.
