Swimming and Diving Claims Three Individual NEC Championships on Wednesday

The Central Connecticut swimming team won three individual gold medals on Wednesday night at the 2022 Northeast Conference Championships at the Spire Institute in Geneva, OH. The Blue Devils swept the 500 free medal stand to open the night and then won the 200 IM and 50 free events.

Following two days of competition CCSU has 213 points to lead the team standings. Bryant is in second with 161.5.

The five-day competition continues on Thursday with 10:00 a.m. prelim races, and finals to be held at 6:00 p.m.

KEY PERFORMANCES (Day 2)

  • 500 Free – The Blue Devils opened the night by scoring 53 points with a sweep in the 500 free. Junior Katie Czulewicz won the event in 4:55.90, just ahead of freshman Abbey Keane (4:57.15). Sophomore Shannon Welcome won the bronze in 5:02.59 to give CCSU the sweep. Freshman Taylor Demarest scored two points with a time of 5:11.31.
  • 200 IM – Freshman Cassidy Stotler continued CCSU’s win streak with a time of 2:03.04 to win the night’s second event. Classmate Morgan O’Hara turned in a time of 2:07.81 to place sixth, while junior Alex Lindgren also scored with a time of 2:08.28.
  • 50 Free – Junior Jeannette King got Central’s third win of the night with a time of 23.13. Freshman Kelly Stotler placed fourth with a time of 23.71 and junior Destiny Johnson clocked a 24.02 to earn 11 points. Junior Hallie Perrin turned in a time of 24.05 and picked up five points.
  • 200 Medley Relay – The relay of Perrin, King, Cassidy Stotler and freshman Ashley Calderon placed second in the night’s final event with a time of 1:43.15.
