Softball Drops Doubleheader to LIU

Central Connecticut State softball dropped both of its Saturday games to the LIU Sharks.

KEY MOMENTS

  • The Sharks got two straight singles to lead off the game and scored a run on a sacrifice fly.
  • Both pitchers dealt the next few innings cleanly. LIU singled to start off the top of the fourth inning, and were able to score the runner on a double to give the Sharks a 2-0 advantage.
  • Brooke Fedison got the Blue Devils’ first hit of the afternoon on a hard hit double out to center field. Paige Stringer stepped up to the plate next and delivered an RBI single out to center field.
  • After a leadoff double in the top of the sixth inning, the Sharks hit a home run to double their score.
  • Stringer drew a leadoff walk in the bottom of the seventh inning, and was advanced to third on a double from Kim Howard. Bri Walker hit another Blue Devil double after Howard’s, scoring Stringer and putting Howard at third, but the Blue Devils were unable to score again before the final out was recorded.

KEY MOMENTS

  • The Sharks were able to get two early runs across in game two Saturday. 
  • Meg Dugas slapped a triple out to right field in the bottom of the second. Molly Bruyns drew a walk to get runners on the corners, but both runners were stranded.
  • LIU had runners on the corners in the next inning, but Ashley Antonazzo was able to get out of the jam cleanly. 
  • After a leadoff double from LIU in the fourth, the Blue Devil defense was able to pull an impressive double play to erase the hit.
  • LIU doubled their score in the fifth inning with two runs scored on three hits.
  • Meg Gorman and Fedison hit back-to-back singles in the bottom of the fifth inning.
  • Another leadoff hit for LIU turned into a run off after a wild pitch and a double.

NOTES

  • Walker led CCSU with two hits in game two.
