The final stages of the BetVictor European Masters are now underway in Germany and the event could see the number one ranking change hands for the first time this season.
Ronnie O’Sullivan currently leads the pack with a points total of £1,041,000, but his withdrawal from this week’s tournament due to an arm injury means that he will not be able to add to his tally in Fuerth.
This opens the door for second placed Judd Trump, who coming into the tournament just £29,500 behind the seven-time world champion, could reclaim the top ranking for the first time since November 2021 with a run to Sunday’s final.
This is because with no points due to be removed from the list following this event, the £35,000 runner-up prize would be sufficient for Trump to pass O’Sullivan.
For that to happen, Trump will need to win five more matches following his opening round success against Noppon Saengkham yesterday, with Ashley Hugill next in line to face the former world champion.
