NEW SIGNING – Jack Oulton

Fresh from a sterling season for both Redruth and Bill Beaumont County Championship winners Cornwall, Plymouth Albion have signed highly rated scrum half Jack Oulton. The Cornishman signs for the Ocean Cities’ finest after a six-season stint for the Dutchy club but has history with the Exeter Chiefs and Cornish Pirates.

At just 26, the lively scrum halves has vast national league experience and Coach Damian Welch was quick to praise saying “One of the key elements to success that we have identified is competition for places. With the signing of Jack there will be a great tussle for the 9 shirt-Jack has been playing in Nat 2 but having known him since he was barely shaving at chiefs I know that his quality and ability far exceeds that level and we have got ourselves a great acquisition. It’s going to be hugely competitive between him, Henry and Olly (not forgetting faf du Putt who although a 10 is also an accomplished 9) and it’s already been impressive to see how quickly he’s assimilated into the group already. We have an exciting stable of 9s and it’s pleasing to have such quality across the board in a key position”.

After the travails of last term when the club had top employ fly halves Tom Putt and Phil Jones in the specialist scrum half role, this is a great fillip for the squad and Oulton himself echoed the positive sentiment adding “I can’t wait to get stuck into this season. It’s a great club with a great bunch of lads. Speaking to Damian, Lamby and Max, it looks like the club really wants to push on and I hope I can help towards that”.

Let’s give Jack a big Albion welcome!
