Three Kenya Rugby teams have been nominated for the Male Team of the Year award at the Sports Personality of the Year Awards (SOYA) scheduled for 21 January.
Kenya 7s who featured at the Olympics finishing ninth after a 22-0 win over Ireland have made the cut. Innocent Simiyu charges had a good year thereafter. They finished third in the shortened World 7s Series campaign and later won the Safari 7s title after beating Germany at Nyayo Stadium late in October.
Shujaa concluded the year by featuring in the 2022 World 7s Series opening rounds where they had an eighth and sixth finish. They are joined by Kenya Cup Champions KCB Rugby who defended the Kenya Cup title with a win over Kabras RFC in Nandi.

KCB played 14 games in 2021 and lost once. Their rivals Kabras RFC are also on the list following their impressive run in 2021 that saw them scoop runners-up medals in the Kenya Cup campaign and win the Charity Cup. Jerome Muller coached side played 17 matches in 2021 and lost once.
They will compete for the award with FKF Premier League Champions Tusker FC and National Super League Champions FC Talanta.
The 2021 Sports Personality of the Year Awards will be hosted in Kakamega County on the 21st of January after the organizers signed an M.O.U with the county. The Theme is “FROM RESILIENCE TO RECOVERY”
